Yes we see new innovations in calgary today. Like the internet and wikipedia. These allow the spread of new ideas. All the information is becoming available for everyone in the world but we are still evolving. Things are becoming more mobile like the iPhone. You can check you email where ever you are. We are seeing big changes in how we communicate.

2) During the renaissance we saw that ideas spread quickly because of the printing press. Do we see ideas spreading quickly in calgary? Why or why not?
Yes we see ideas spreading quickly but not specifically in calgary. We see ideas spreading quickly all around the world because of the new innovations such as the internet. The internet allows ideas to spread quickly.

Communications has continued to increase in the past years and will continue to increase because of the new innovations in communications. Calgary is an oil based city and is very conservative and this leads to the increase of communications.

4) At the time of the renaissance we saw some of the greatest minds and thinkers. Do you think we are seeing something similar in Calgary today?
Calgary has great talent and great minds and top thinkers. If we went back to the renaissance we could invent the printing press but we couldn't invent the iPhone. It is a team effort not dependent on the individuals. Smart people want to come to calgary.

Calgary biggest innovation is the oil sands and oil and gas but there is nothing equivelent to the renaissance. It was easier in the renaissance. People 300 years from now will be studying us and our technology just as we are studying the renaissance.

Derek Paragraph:

Calgary does not have the necessary conditions to become a renaissance city. The reason Taco think this is because during the renaissance a city such as Florence for example was much different from other citys in Europe. They had special and new ways of doing things. Including new innovations in communications that were completely new and different, this helped Florence become a renaissance city. (quote)"Yes we see ideas spreading quickly but not specifically in calgary. We see ideas spreading quickly all around the world"

In terms of communications, Calgary has nothing special from any other city. Almost every city including Calgary has, internet, cell phones, ect. So without any new or technically advanced forms of communications it will be harder for calgary to become a renaissance city .So this is why Taco thinks Calgary doesn’t have the necessary conditions to become a renaissance city.

Mitchell Paragraph:
In response to whether Calgary has the necessary innovations such as the printing press, which allow ideas to spread to become a renaissance city, taco believes that we do see new innovations in Calgary such as the Internet. Specifically things like twitter allow ideas to spread quickly and efficient. He states, “All the information is becoming available for everyone in the world but we are still evolving.” By this he means that all the information is becoming available to everyone in the world through the Internet but we are still evolving as humans.
